The Black Rose
Flower School
Spring Summer 2008
WORKSHOP PROGRAMME
A glorious arrangement of fresh flowers is the perfect tonic for these cold,
dark nights. And it’ll give you even more of a lift if you have the
satisfaction of having designed and created it yourself.
To speed up Spring arriving and brighten up Summer, we’ve devised some
fabulous new courses which give you the chance to learn our design secrets, practice
new skills and generally have a relaxing and enjoyable day.
The workshops take place at our purpose-built studio in Knutsford, which
provides the ideal surroundings to absorb the new techniques you’ll be shown and
to have fun too. Our master florist, Mark Entwistle, runs the courses and his
laid-back and sympathetic teaching style means the experience is enjoyable and
stress-free. As well as technical know-how, you’ll be able to see Mark’s
flair for flowers in action and be inspired to develop your own creativity and
imagination.
As well as the workshops listed, we also offer Group design courses and One to One sessions that are customised to suit you.
Whichever you choose, you’re sure to have a memorable and satisfying day,
taking home new skills you’ll enjoy for years to come. And if you know
someone else who’d also love the opportunity to share our love of floral
design, we offer Gift Vouchers, which make a unique and unforgettable present.
On the accompanying sheet you’ll find details of each of our varied and
exciting courses, as well as information about your day at the studio. To book your
place, either complete and send the attached application form or call us on
01565-751454.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Basically Black Rose (£100 including VAT)
The Black Rose has a very distinctive style of flower arranging. Mark makes it
look effortless and it’s actually quite easy to achieve; when you know the
secrets. In this introductory class, you’ll learn some basic skills and
techniques and watch Mark demonstrate his unique flair for flowers. First timers will
find out just how simple it can be to create a spectacular display and pick up a
few tips to give their arrangements that extra special Black Rose touch.
Dates: Monday 10th March, Thursday 10th April
Inspirational Designs (£125 including VAT)
At the RHS Tatton Flower Show this year, The Black Rose won Gold and Best in
Show in the floral design studio and every visitor to the stand commented on how inspirational Mark’s designs were. Being able to use your creativity is something of an
art form and, in this wonderful class, Mark will share the same inspiration that
goes into creating award-winning displays and use his extraordinary talent to
encourage you to design your own unique and individual arrangement.
Dates: Monday 7th April, Thursday 12th June
In Vogue(£115 including VAT)
This class is the haute couture of floral design. As a multi-award-winning
florist, Mark helps set the latest trends and he’ll share the up and coming
fashions with you. Find out which colours, textures and forms are coming to the fore
in 2008 and learn how to interpret new styling influences to shape your own In Vogue creations.
Dates: Monday 14th April, Thursday 19th June
Architectural Simplicity (£110 including VAT)
An arrangement based on simple structure can be far more eye-catching than an
abundant bouquet. By focussing on lines and forms, be they gentle and sweeping,
bold and confident, curved and curling, you’ll learn how to style imaginative
and inspiring displays from stems, foliage and the odd architectural flower. You
may well be surprised at how so few elements can look quite so amazing.
Dates: Monday 31st March, Thursday 1st May
Contemporary Green & White (£115 including VAT)
A traditional French favourite, the green and white colour scheme has a timeless
appeal. We’ve now given this elegant and effortlessly chic approach to
flower arranging a contemporary je ne sais quoi by using innovative Black Rose
elements, new materials and the latest floral designs. Discover how subtle tonal
variations across a simple colour contrast can be the most creative and the most
striking.
Dates: Monday 12th May, Thursday, 5th June
Elements of Surprise (£110 including VAT)
Well if we told you all about this class, it wouldn’t be much of a
surprise would it?! Suffice it to say that Elements of Surprise will encourage you to
think more creatively and imaginatively about floral design. It may be by
incorporating something unexpected into your design, by using unusual containers,
materials or colour combinations or by approaching an arrangement in a new and
interesting way – you’ll just have to wait and see!
Date: Thursday 8th May, Monday 23rd June
One-to-One or Group Design Class
If there’s a specific skill you’d like to learn, or particular
flowers you’d like to work with, we can customise a workshop just for you,
